Midday crash and traffic shifts cause 6-mile Bay Bridge delays
A crash on the eastbound span around 11:08 AM closed the left lane, triggering heavy midday congestion in both directions during two-way traffic transitions. Eastbound delays reached 6 miles back to the Severn River Bridge, while westbound queues stretched 5.4 miles to Exit 42 at Kent Narrows. Peak travel times reached 39 minutes eastbound and 25 minutes westbound before backups cleared by 2:47 PM, when normal three-lane eastbound and two-lane westbound operations resumed.
