Midday eastbound crash on Chesapeake Bay Bridge causes severe multi-mile delays
An eastbound crash around 12:08 PM temporarily closed the eastbound span, restricting traffic to a single lane and triggering 5.5-mile backups starting at Exit 27 (Route 2/Ritchie Highway). Peak travel times reached 39 minutes eastbound and 26 minutes westbound between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, with westbound delays extending up to 8.7 miles to Exit 45B (Nesbitt Road). Traffic returned to normal in both directions by 5:38 PM.
