Six-mile eastbound backup highlights heavy Friday afternoon Bay Bridge delays
The first half of Friday saw normal traffic flow, but delays began mounting by 2:16 p.m. when westbound traffic backed up 3.2 miles to Exit 39b (MD 552, Dominion Road). By 4:21 p.m., eastbound congestion peaked with a six-mile backup starting at the Severn River Bridge, which pushed eastbound travel times to 28 minutes. Westbound drivers also encountered a 1.2-mile backup to the Exit 37 Route 8 overpass before all delays cleared and normal traffic patterns resumed by 6:26 p.m.

Eastbound traffic is backed up for six miles, starting at the Severn River Bridge. Westbound traffic is experiencing delays starting at the Exit 37 Route 8 overpass (about 1.2 miles from the bridge), with additional delays occurring further back on the Eastern Shore along US 50 prior to Maryland 404.

As of Friday, July 10th at 2:16 p.m., westbound traffic on the Bay Bridge is experiencing delays starting at Exit 39b (Maryland 552, Dominion Road), which is 3.2 miles from the bridge. Westbound travel is currently taking 13 minutes (normally an 8-minute trip) with two lanes open.
Eastbound traffic on the Bay Bridge is currently normal with three lanes open, taking about 11 minutes. However, eastbound travelers heading toward the Severn River Bridge will encounter delays starting at Exit 27, which is approximately 1.5 miles from that bridge.
