High winds and restricted lanes caused afternoon Bay Bridge delays
Sustained winds between 40 and 49 mph triggered wind restrictions and halted two-way operations Wednesday afternoon, barring house trailers and empty box trailers from 3:14 PM until 4:00 PM. Eastbound queues stretched 2.5 miles back to Bay Head Road with travel times peaking at 23 minutes, while westbound delays reached 0.6 miles to the Route 8 overpass. Traffic fully cleared by 4:28 PM after crews lifted the wind restrictions and opened a third eastbound lane.
