Crash on Eastbound Bay Bridge Causes 3-Mile Delays
An midday crash on Wednesday, July 8th, closed the left lane on the eastbound span, triggering a three-mile backup stretching to Exit 29B (Kate St. Clair Road). The incident occurred shortly before 11:42 a.m., causing eastbound travel times to peak at 23 minutes at 11:00 a.m. compared to the typical 12 minutes. By 2:22 p.m., the crash was cleared and traffic returned to normal in both directions.

The eastbound bridge is closed for road work, and the center lane on the westbound bridge is closed for a buffer. As a result, the bridge is currently operating with only one lane open in each direction (one lane eastbound and one lane westbound).
