Nine-mile eastbound backups delayed Thursday afternoon commuters.
Significant eastbound delays began at 11:18 a.m. near Exit 30 and peaked with a nine-mile backup reaching Exit 23 (Maryland 450 Parole) between 4:12 p.m. and 5:12 p.m. Westbound traffic also saw a four-mile queue at 2:18 p.m. extending to Exit 48 (South Piney Creek Road) while lane configurations were adjusted. The bridge operated with three lanes eastbound and two lanes westbound for the evening rush before returning to an overnight two-way traffic pattern on the westbound span for road work.
